Crafting A Martin Saddle

Since the beginning, Martin Saddlery has focused on producing custom quality saddles designed and built to fit a specific horse and sport.  Years of specialized experience have resulted in a product few can match.... a custom quality saddle, available in a reasonable time frame, at an attractive price.  Using only the finest leather, hardware, and sheepskins available, each Martin saddle is hand carved, individually assembled, and hand finished by quality craftsmen.  Tooling patterns are hand drawn, which creates a subtle difference in each saddle and makes it unique in design while maintaining the durability and quality you expect in a Martin saddle.

Foundation of a Martin Saddle

To make the best saddles possible, you have to start with the best fitting saddle trees.  Like a building's foundation, the tree must be built to precise specifications to support the load it carries.  The quality of the saddle tree ultimately determines the quality of the finished saddle.  That's why at Martin Saddlery, they now custom make every tree they build their saddles on!

Fit

Martin saddle trees are precisely assembled to specific angles of alignment.  The bar pattern is designed to provide full, even contact with the horse's back throughout the entire length of the bar.  The bars are carefully spaced to allow adequate spine relief.  Maximum surface area contact, without sharp edges or pressure points, allows even distribution of pressure to help prevent soreness.  The tips of the bars front and back are designed to flare up and away from the horse's back to provide pressure relief and accommodate the movement of the horse's shoulder and loin.  This flared design encourages lateral flexion allowing the horse's shoulder and hips to roll and move without acute points of pressure.  The feature also helps prevent the bar from jamming the shoulder during hard stops and turns.

Function

Due to the special maneuvers performed in various horse activities, each Martin saddle is designed to accommodate specific riding styles.  With research gathered from the industry's top horsemen and horsewomen, Martin saddle trees were designed to maximize your performance.  The fit and design of the cantle, swell, and seat fit the specialized use of each saddle to match the riding style of the sport.  Martin saddles offer both comfort and confidence for winning performances.

Martin saddle trees are made from select, kiln-dried timber that is harvested from South Dakota.  Each part of the tree is cut from master molds to precise measurements, then the entire tree is covered with strengthening fiberglass for a bond that is complete, seamless, and water proof.

Value

The bottom line is that the most important aspect of a saddle tree is in the fit of both the horse and rider.  Martin saddle trees are carefully designed to fit well down on the horse's back, which allows your horse a full range of pain free motion.  And their saddles are built to accommodate you with the proper seat to perform your best.  Martin Saddlery is very proud to offer durable, long lasting, symmetrically consistent trees to compliment the quality craftsmanship of a finished Martin Saddle.
